Business As Usual in the U.S. Senate

The vote by the U.S. Senate Sunday to approve SB 510 proves that when push comes to shove, every Senator can be bought off with a bag of cash. It's no wonder the country is in such bad shape.

Suggestions

My short list of  fat to trim off the Federal Budget:

1. Repeal Obamacare

2. Shut down U.S. foreign military bases.
(we have hundreds of them all over the world)

3. Eliminate Foreign Aid
(We can't afford it)

4. Eliminate Farm Subsidies
(Trust Free Market Capitalism)

How's that for starters?

CNN reported Friday night: "Democrats then wanted to attach [S.510] to a narrower government-funding bill that is expected to pass Saturday but Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Oklahoma, warned he would object if they did. A GOP leadership aide told CNN it would be impossible to approve the food bill quickly unless all Republicans support doing so. Coburn has said he opposes the bill because, he claims, it spends billions and increases government regulations without actually making the food supply safer. A Democratic leadership aide held out hope an 11th hour deal could save the bill the GOP leadership aide warned that it is not likely." http://www.cnn.com/2010/POLITICS/12/17/food.safety.bill/index.html
Health and Food Freedom, like every freedom, is under constant assault. Only vigilance, valor and dedication protect it. We, the Health Freedom Warriors, have proven ourselves to be vigilant, brave and focused.  The other side, however, has a bit of that too, and is also equipped with nearly limitless resources.

The critical moment is now, during the last couple days before the Holiday recess.

Sunday Night Update: Monday Morning Risks to Health and Food Freedom
The simple Five-Day Continuing Resolution to keep the govt in business expires Tuesday. Why, you may ask, does the lame-duck leadership continue to hold Federal programs hostage like this? To grasp onto power for a few days more, in hope that something will happen to allow them to impose their will on the new Congress convening in early January.
And now, they've "dropped the other shoe..." with an announcement on the Senate's official video feed, C-span2. Here is what the screen-crawl said, under "Pending" this evening as the Senate adjourned after the unusual step of holding both Saturday and Sunday sessions:
"FY 2011 Federal spending through September 2011"
What does that mean? It means the simple, short Continuing Resolution which wouldn't tie the hands of the incoming Congress is again being held up as the lame-duck leadership tries to pass the already-once-defeated Omnibus Bill...
BUT, FAR WORSE, WAS THE BETRAYAL SUNDAY NIGHT OF THE HEALTH AND FOOD FREEDOM MOVEMENT BY THE GOP, IN PASSING S.510 BACK TO THE HOUSE WITHOUT A RECORDED VOTE BY UNANIMOUS CONSENT.
ACCORDING TO THE HILL:
"The Senate unexpectedly approved food safety legislation by unanimous consent Sunday evening, rescuing a bill that floated in limbo for weeks because of a clerical error."

Our so-called friends in the Senate had assured us they would object to any effort to tack S.510, the fake "food safety" (really, "food control") bill onto any other legislation in the last couple days of the congressional session. We feel betrayed. We pledge not to forget!

Earmarks and Pork, or Government Shutdown

It wouldn't be the worst thing that ever happened for the government to shut down for a few days, or weeks at the end of the year. In the Libertarian Utopia, there are undoubtably certain parts of the federal government that should be shut down and never started back up. Tea party members are watching and they have pretty good memories, as demonstrated in the recent midterm elections. I would encourage congressmen and senators of conscious to reject the last-minute, last-ditch effort by the lame duck congress to grab one last feast at the public trough at the public's expense. Call the Demos' bluff and vote "NO" to this latest 2,000-page legislative atrocity.

The House Holds the Purse Strings

Come January, when the new Tea Party-influenced congress takes control of the House of Representatives, I guess we'll see if the Republicans can cut the pork, ear-marks and deficit spending from the U.S. Budget. I have heard it said that perhaps the only way to reduce the size of the federal government is to allow it to go bankrupt and sell off a bunch of its assets to settle its debts. What am I bid for Yellowstone?

Is It Time to Trade in Our Old Gas-Guzzlin' Government in for a New Economy Model?

Lately I've been thinking it sure would be nice to trade in my old government in for a new model that could get a lot more mileage for a lot less money. The national debt is growing exponentially and the politicians we elect to manage our affairs keep piling on the burden of more and more government and associated regulations that stifle free markets and capitalism. Somewhere down the line we changed from a Republic that honored and valued the principles of freedom and liberty to an oligarchy, where special interests in the form of lobbyists for giant corporations and banks grease the wheels of government with campaign contributions in exchange for special interest protective legislation that benefits corporations while it drains the life-blood out of the ordinary citizens of this nation.

Huge federal beaurocratic agencies are empowered to pass regulation after regulation to micromanage everything within their grasp. Farmers are paid subsidies to not grow certain crops and corporations are rewarding for moving manufacturing overseas to cheaper labor markets. This is bass-ackwards in my opinion.  Our military has bases in hundreds of countries around the world, we give foreign aid to countries all over the world, many of which regularly vote with our enemies in the United Nations, another organization that we support with taxpayer dollars.

So, the purpose of this blog is to deal with the reality of forcing our government to live within its means, on a budget. How do we balance the budget. No ordinary citizen can go on for any period of time borrowing money to pay the interest on their debts. They go broke. As a nation that's where we are now and we will either have to face these sad facts and make the hard decisions to change the way we operate or keep kicking the can down the road until our financial system collapsed completely. I believe that rather than higher taxes and more government, the only way to save our country is to return to the strict constitutional concepts that our country is based on.  That will allow us to live with a lot less government and lot more individual liberty.

I welcome all comments regarding  solutions to our national debt crisis and invite you from time to time to visit my new web site: Urukgina21, which is also brand new and is designed to offer provocative content designed to open minds to reality.
